I'm putting this post up on the Harvard LA Grads Website because
Children's Hospital in Los Angeles has actually gotten some donors
from previous posts that I have put up on the Harvard Recent Grads
Yahoo Group. So I figured why not put a post up on the Harvard LA
Grads Group :-).

I am a Harvard Grad myself, and I can't tell you how gratifying it is
to hear people at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles go "hey, we got
two or three people in here donating platelets because of the post
you put up!" It makes me extraordinarily proud and honored to be a
Harvard Grad!

Again, Children's Hospital in Los Angeles is in desperate need of
platelets. It is usually the bone cancer kids and the leukemia kids
that need platelets, although it can also be children suffering from
other rare blood disorders. Platelet donation is a little different
than whole blood donation: Because platelets are quickly replenished
by your body, you can donate platelets as frequently as every 48
hours, but no more than 24 times a year.

If you have questions about what platelets are, please go to
http://www.redcross.org/services/biomed/0,1082,0_19_,00.html.

Please call George Meridia at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles if
you have any questions or want to donate. (323) 669-2370 or
gemerida@chla.usc.edu. And although this post talks about August
3rd, I can tell you for a fact that Children's Hospital in Los
Angeles still desperately needs platelets!

Thanks!

Hi Jennifer, we wanted to thank you for the last time you donated
platelets here at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, we really
appreciate it.

Unfortunately we are having a critical platelet shortage right now.
The American Red Cross is having some problems at this very needed
time and we have Bone Marrow Transplant patients who are in very high
need of platelets to keep them from bleeding.

Unfortunately their family and friends are from out of state, so the
parents of these patients have no one from around here to donate
platelets for their children. So we're hoping you could please help
these families by coming in to donate platelets as soon as you can.

We have openings we really need to fill for today Friday 8/3/07 (from
7:30am to 3:pm) and by doing so you are helping us make a very big
difference for these kids and their families during this very needed
time, by giving them hope in knowing that there are people that care
(such as yourself :-)). And its donors like you that help us to
fulfill those hopes.

Thank you very much, and please give me a call or email me to let me
know when you can come in. We really appreciate it and we hope to
see you soon.

Take care.

have for free...compliments of us, our way of saying, "Thank
You," Take care. :-)
