HU Kennedy School Grad Ben Mangan's Company: EARN Seeks Development Associate

DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE

Organizational Summary:
The Earned Assets Resource Network, Inc. (EARN) is a nationally recognized, award winning nonprofit organization that provides direct service to four Bay Area Counties, and conducts statewide policy advocacy.

EARN expands low and moderate income people’s access to wealth through the use of matched savings accounts (including Individual Development Accounts, or IDAs), money management training, and connections to the financial mainstream. Matched savings can be used for high-return investments such as education, homeownership, and micro-enterprise development. EARN has helped nearly 1,200 local working poor families to save over $3 million toward homeownership, small business start up and post secondary training.

Position Description:
Reporting to the Development and Communications Director, the Development Associate plays a significant role in maintaining and building EARN’s overall fundraising program. The Development Associate’s responsibilities focus on three key areas:

1) Creating grant reports and some proposals
2) Managing the development and communications calendar
3) Maintaining and reconciling funding records (actual and forecast) with the finance department

The Development Associate’s duties will include but are not limited to:

Reports and grants:
1) For most foundation, corporate, and government grant reporting requirements: work closely with EARN staff to record programmatic results, write interim and final reports, prepare other required elements, and submit reports on or before due dates.
2) For selected foundation, corporate, and government grant proposal opportunities as assigned: research funder guidelines, gather information, draft proposal, work with finance and program staff to prepare other required elements, and submit proposals on or before due dates.

Development and communications calendar:
1) Record proposal and report due dates in Salesforce database and keep relevant staff informed of upcoming deadlines.
2) Maintain paper and online files documenting proposal and report submission.
3) With the Development and Communications Director, create and maintain a calendar of recurring and one-time communications (e.g., newsletters, newsblasts, solicitation mailings).

Grant funding records:
1) With the Administrative Manager, maintain accurate database records of grants actually received, including key information such as grant period and grant purpose.
2) With the Development and Communications Director, maintain accurate database records of potential (forecasted) grant opportunities, including key information such as anticipated response date, probability of grant, and grant purpose.
3) Participate in monthly reconciliation of finance and fundraising records of actual gifts and grants, and in quarterly forecast of projected gifts and grants.

Departmental support:
1) Provide basic administrative support for the development and communications department; provide backup administrative support for the organization as assigned.
2) Supervise volunteers as needed in performing basic development and communications activities.
3) Other duties related to development and communications as assigned.

EARN is seeking a candidate with the following skills and experience:
- B.A. degree
- Experience with foundation/corporation grant process and grant writing
- Ability to work independently, and in a fast paced, often changing environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and coordination and office support skills
- Ability to maintain schedules and timelines
- Detail-oriented
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access); SalesForce experience a plus
- Ability to do limited physical activity
- Enjoys working as part of a team
- Flexible work hours
