SPONSORS:

GGNRA Big Year
The Golden Gate National Recreation Area contains more endangered species than any other National Park in continental North America. This is cause for celebration because we are fortunate to have such a diverse landscape in public ownership. But it is also cause for concern, as the species' dire status may indicate that something is wrong with our relationship to the Park. The 2008 GGNRA Endangered Species Big Year is a race against time to see each of the 33 endangered and threatened species found within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, while taking 33 discrete conservation recovery actions that will prevent these species from going extinct. It is a competitive event: the person who sees and helps the most species in 2008 will win the Big Year. The Big Year will enable you to explore the diverse habitats of the GGNRA; help the Park's endangered species recover; and discover the humility, compassion, and hope embodied in the legal protections for this land and our imperiled neighbors. Join the2008 Golden Gate National Recreation Area Endangered Species Big Year! You may participate in as much or as little of the Big Year as you like. All events are free! Kick-off party at the San Francisco Zoo on 1/6/08 at 1pm. http://www.ggnrabigyear.org
